Photographic composition is the art of arranging elements within an image to communicate a message or evoke a specific emotion.
It is the visual language of a photograph, where each element has an important role in the overall story.
Like great jazz musicians, a photographer is an improviser.
During a musical session, the jazz musician plays non-stop, combining music that he has stored up over time and experience. Although it all seems improvised, in reality it is years of rehearsals, study and experience that intertwine in virtuoso musical performances.
Likewise, when a photographer takes a picture, he instinctively recalls his experience and the images he has seen and taken. He translates the world around him into spontaneous images, based on experience and instinct. A visual improvisation, dictated by his experience and instinct, but which still has to follow a score.
Photographic composition is therefore also a question of intuition and creativity.
Experimenting with different compositions and finding your own personal style is essential to growing as a photographer.
Composition is a powerful tool to convey your message and connect with your audience.
Luigino Snidero , from Udine, born in 1958, has been a photographer since the 1980s.
